Department store chain Debenhams has confirmed a further 25 shops will permanently close in less than a fortnight.

The retailer is in the middle of a closing down sale after no rescue deal for the struggling business was secured last year.

Online fashion firm Boohoo in January acquired all of the intellectual property assets (including customer data and selected contracts) of Debenhams from its joint administrators, in a £55 million deal. But physical shops were not part of the purchase.

A winding down of the Debenhams shops was announced in December, however the national lockdown came in after, and ‘non essential’ retailers were only allowed to have customers back in stores from April 12.
