Eagles QB Carson Wentz after 4 turnovers against Cowboys: 'I'm not good enough'

The Philadelphia Eagles may be in first place in the NFC East, but quarterback Carson Wentz realizes how little that means in this year’s division.

And he is well aware of one of the things that needs to improve moving forward.

Wentz addresses play after Cowboys game

That would start with him.

“I’m not good enough,” Wentz said, via the Delaware New Journal, after a 23-9 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. “I can be better. I know I will be.”

Wentz had four turnovers against a Cowboys defense ranked 27th in the league. Dallas entered the game with a league-worst three takeaways on the entire season and more than doubled it in one game thanks to Wentz.

He completed 15 of 27 attempts for 123 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He fumbled twice and was sacked four times.

Wentz leads league in turnovers by wide margin

Wentz is up to 15 turnovers this season, most in the league. Kirk Cousins and Daniel Jones each have 11, per ESPN Stats and Info. His 12 interceptions are already second-most in his five-year career behind the 14 he threw in 2016. In the three years after, he only had seven in each season.

And he has the worst completion percentage of his professional career at 58.4 percent.

“Some of these shots down the field, I’m going to keep giving these guys chances and I can be better and put the ball in the right spot,” Wentz said, via the New Journal. “But I’m not going to change my aggressive mentality. We’re going to start connecting on some of those big plays.”

Already halfway through the season, Wentz is on track to throw for 24 interceptions and 24 touchdowns. That’s not even close to good enough to make noise in the playoffs, even if it the Eagles (3-4-1) can hold on to first place in a division that can be entertaining but difficult to watch. In their Sunday night victory, Philadelphia won in a way that hasn’t been done since the 1982 playoffs. And it’s nothing to celebrate.
