Elon Musk has shown interest in a new dating app idea for Twitter.

The Tesla (TSLA) boss responded to a conceptual design for a 'Twinder' dating app by posting, "interesting idea, maybe jobs too".

A Twitter user that Musk subscribes to called Steven Mark Ryan posted an idea on Wednesday for a Twitter dating app dubbed 'Twinder', that he claimed would offer a superior alternative to conventional dating apps and hinted that it could possibly solve the world's population issues.

Ryan tweeted: "When Twitter dating app? Might actually save humanity from extinction. Not even joking. Very low hanging fruit. Besides the 'everything app', I could make an entire video on how this opt-in app would work and why it would be ten times better than conventional dating apps. Twinder would be huge."

Musk was quick to reply to the post saying it was an "interesting idea, maybe jobs too."

After the Twitter sphere reacted with a mix of horror and enthusiasm, Ryan added: "To the people loudly shrieking "no", the operative term was "opt-in". If you do not choose to be part of Twitter dating by opting in, you are not part of Twitter dating and your experience using Twitter would not change. I did not expect I would need to explain this."

Elon Musk's vision for transforming Twitter into a super app called "X" is gradually taking shape.

Super apps, which provide multiple services within a single platform, are prevalent in Asia, such as China's WeChat platform.

However, they haven't gained traction in the US, but Musk aims to change this by incorporating services like stock and crypto trading and possibly even AI capabilities into an "X" app.

Several obstacles stand in the way of Musk's ambition, including US consumer habits, legal hurdles, and trust issues surrounding Musk and Twitter's security.

While experts believe a specialised super app could succeed in the US, it remains to be seen whether Musk's Twitter can overcome these challenges and become a comprehensive super app.
