Fern Britton will take viewers on personal journey in two-part series My Cornwall
Fern Britton is embarking on a personal quest to unearth the captivating charm of Cornwall in for a two-part series called My Cornwall for Channel 5.
With so many of us flocking to Cornwall over the spring and summer holidays, particularly as so many of us are unable to go abroad, the presenter aims to capture the allure of the county, and find out why it is so different from the rest of the UK.
Channel 5 says: "For as long as Fern Britton can remember, Cornwall has always been in her heart. From childhood holidays in the 1950’s; to covering the area as a local news reader in the 1980’s; and now as her home and inspiration as an author.
"By delving into Cornwall’s roots, its rich history, heritage, myths and legends, can Fern discover the secret behind the magic of modern Cornwall?"
Episode one will feature Fern exploring the part of the county she first fell heart over heels for as a child: the south.
Part two will follow Fern as she delves into the pagan roots that may explain why Cornwall is awash with tales of the supernatural, from witchcraft to pixies and giants. She finds out why there are so many saints associated with Cornwall and uncovers the story behind St Piran, the patron saint of Cornwall whose black and white flag flies so proudly all over the county.

Fans of Fern Britton’s novels will know the writer is hugely inspired by the Cornish landscape, as all her books are set in Cornwall, where she now lives.
"In my mind's eye, Cornwall is very much a character in its own right," Fern recently told us from her garden on the north Coast of Cornwall, speaking as part of our Good Housekeeping Big Summer Book Day.
"It's somewhere I truly feel at home," she added.
My Cornwall with Fern Britton will begin on 5th August at 8pm on Channel 5.
