We Finally Know When Wendy’s Is Coming To The UK

For years, us Brits have been jealous of the level of fast food our friends across the pond have. Yeah, we’ve got McDonald’s, KFC, Five Guys and all that, but we’ve always had a soft spot for In-N-Out Burger, Chick-fil-A and, especially, Wendy’s.

So when we heard that Wendy’s was finally coming to the UK, we lost it – we absolutely, completely, 100% lost it.

Wendy’s, which is best known for its square burgers (including the Baconator) and Frosty Shakes, announced plans to open restaurants in the UK last summer, but it’s now been confirmed by Big Hospitality that two locations have officially been confirmed: Oxford and Reading. Plus, the fast food chain is also looking for spots in London!

And we now know when we can get our hands on our very first Wendy's UK burgers and Frosty Shakes.

The first Wendy's flagship branch will open its doors next month in Reading on Wednesday 2 June. The first restaurant will be located in the town centre, which was previously a Nationwide bank branch.

When the exciting news was first announced about Wendy's coming to the UK, a Wendy’s spokesperson said: “I can confirm that we will be opening a Wendy’s restaurant in Oxford.”

“Our first location is in Reading and we are exploring additional opportunities in the London area.

“The brand is excited to enter the UK with company owned and operated restaurants this year, and we are looking for franchisees to grow with us across the United Kingdom.”

Here's a sneak peek at some of the Wendy's favourites that will be featured on the UK menu:

  • Dave's Single® - A quarter-pound of fresh beef, American cheese, crisp lettuce, tomato, pickle, ketchup, mayo, and onion on a toasted bun.

  • Chocolate Frosty® - A fresh, frozen ice cream dessert that's thick enough to use a spoon and smooth enough to use a straw.

  • Spicy Chicken Sandwich- A juicy chicken breast marinated and breaded in a unique, fiery blend of peppers and spices to deliver more flavour inside and out, cooled down with crisp lettuce, tomato, and mayo.

  • Avocado Chicken Salad - Made fresh daily with Wendy's signature lettuce blend, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, cool, creamy avocado, Applewood smoked bacon, and grilled chicken breast hot off the grill, all topped with Southwest Ranch Dressing.

Now, this is not actually the first time Wendy’s have had restaurants in the UK – back in the 90s, there were a handful of Wendy’s in the UK, but the last one shut down in 2000.

So, please welcome back to the UK, our good pal Wendy.
