Tip of the week

With summer approaching, holidays come to mind. But you can save a packet by booking off-season, advises Darren Williams of PromotionalCodes.org.uk.

“Holiday companies fluctuate their prices according to demand and unfortunately summer is the priciest time,” he points out. “Booking at an off-peak time can be better for your bank account so it’s always worth looking at deals for early autumn.”

He also warns to be wary of hidden charges.

“Most holiday companies will try to lure you in with cheap-sounding deals but they forget to mention the extra charges for food, blankets, concierge service etc.

“To avoid being stung by these charges take your booking right up to the payment page so you know exactly what you’ll be forking out for.”

The best time to book flights at their cheapest is around 53 days before you travel, he adds. “It does differ between different companies but if you’re booking around this time frame you’ll be sure to get the best deals.”
