£100 cashback on new iPhone X

If you’re snapping up a new iPhoneX –which was released last Friday – you can get £100 cashback by signing up to the TopCashback website.

If you’re already a member of the site you can get £85 cashback when signing up to a two-year contract for the new Apple phone through Carphone Warehouse but new members will qualify for £15 bonus cashback by going here.

If you want to buy the phone outright – prices start at a whopping £999 – you can get £20 cashback.

Are you paying too much for your phone?

If you’re a customer of Vodafone, EE or Three and stayed on the same phone plan after a fixed deal ended, you could be paying an extra £22 a month for a phone you’ve already paid off.

The warning comes from Citizens Advice which sent out its investigators to do a mystery shopping exercise and uncover the widespread overpayments.

Consumer expert Helen Dewdney says people who’ve fallen victim to the trick can get their money back.

She says: “If your provider renewed your contract after you had paid off the handset and you could have taken up a contract with another provider, you should write to the provider and state that it is in breach of The Consumer Rights Act 2015 because the contract is weighted in favour of the trader.

“On top of that it is also a breach of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2014 because the trader could be considered as committing a misleading practice.”

Free herbal tea

There’s a herbal tea that reckons it is “cleaner, healthier and tastier” because it uses what it claims are “wild-harvested herbs”.

If you’re tempted by that kind of marketing, you can try a free sample cuppa courtesy of the makers of G&T.

Their tea comes in four flavours – peppermint, chamomile, hibiscus and ginger – and you can request a sample of all four by completing your details here.

Thanks to the keen moneysaver at Hot UK Deals who spotted a potential pre-Christmas day out for those in the south-east.

You can get four free tickets to Ascot races where there’ll also be a Christmas Shopping Village on Friday 24 November.

Go here to book the “Free Queen Anne Admission Tickets”.

Free Captain Birdseye soft toy

To mark the golden jubilee of Captain Birdseye – that’s 50 years – the fish finger company is giving away 6,000 cuddly Captain Birds Eye toys.

If you’d like to apply for one complete the form at the Birds Eye website, and add the code L7208ZS124. You’ll also need to specify a product purchased (we went for 10 cod fish fingers!).

Winners should be emailed within three days (we didn’t win!).

£8 off a litre of Baileys

If you like to have a bit of Baileys in for Christmas, Tesco is currently offering the creamy alcohol for just £12 for a litre bottle, down from £20.

The deal runs until 11 December and includes Original Irish Cream Liquer as well as Coffee and Orange Truffle flavours.

Get £130 for switching bank accounts

Switch bank accounts to TSB’s Classic Plus and you could get £130.

To get the cash you’ll have to switch through MoneySavingExpert.

On top of that you can also earn up to £10 cashback each month until the end of June 2018 with the account.

However, you should have a good look at the account to make sure it’s the right one for you over the long-term.

Look at charges and benefits to see whether you may be better off by switching.

If not, then even with the £130 bribe and £10 a month it’s probably not worth making the change.

The switching offer runs until 4 December and you’ll need to ensure at least £500 is paid into the new account within 28 days of the switch.

Tip of the week

The Money Aware site from Step Change debt charity points out that you can ease the upcoming cost of Christmas by selling things you don’t need.

For example, if you have DVDs and CDs you don’t watch or listen to anymore, you can register them on Music Magpie or one of the other selling services.

Lovemoney’s comparison guide is useful, but be aware that some of the sites will only pay a few pence per DVD.

Meanwhile if you have old consoles and games gathering dust you can take them to Computer Exchange (CEX) or Cash Converters.

Finally if you have bags of clothes piled up in the spare room, you can flog them on eBay or in a car boot.

The site also has a handy guide on what to sell on eBay to give you a few tips too.
