Yahoo Finance Gilmore Girls star David Sutcliffe claims he was ‘kidding’ in Capitol riots post
Actor David Sutcliffe has said that he was “kidding” after tweeting about wishing he’d taken part in the Capitol riots.
In a post shared on Twitter last week, Sutcliffe, who is best known for playing Rory’s father Christopher on Gilmore Girls, reposted a clip in which a rioter claims to be smoking cannabis inside the Capitol during the attack earlier this month.
“There are rumors circulating that I ‘stormed the capital’ [sic],” Sutcliffe wrote.
“Not true – though I would have been proud to share a smoke with this great Patriot!”
After the tweet was widely reported on, Sutcliffe claimed on Monday (18 January) that he had only been joking.

Responding to a follower who wrote: “Guys… is it possible he’s kidding? I literally saw this days ago and laughed and moved on thinking it was an actual joke,” Sutcliffe tweeted: “Correct.”
However, it is not the first time Sutcliffe has recently shown support for Donald Trump, retweeting posts in recent weeks suggesting that the president was being “silenced” after being banned from Twitter.
He has also recently liked tweets that read: “Women’s politics is best for the home. Men’s politics is best for the world” and suggested that social justice movements were a form of “neoracism”.
Five people died after a group of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building on 6 January in an attempt to disrupt Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s election win.
