Goshen director named Bandmaster of the Year

Jan. 11—INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Bandmasters Association has selected Goshen Community Schools Band Director Tom Cox the 2024 Indiana Bandmaster of the Year.

Cox serves on the board of directors for IBA as well as the Indiana Music Educators Association, where he received the Indiana Music Educator of the Year award in 2020, a press release from Music For All notes.

Cox was also named Michiana Music Educator of the Year, Goshen High School Educator of the Year, the Coups de Vent Award (valedictorian) from the American Band College of Southern Oregon University, Sousa Foundation's "Legion of Honor" Award, and Who's Who Among America's Teachers.

"The committee has noticed Tom's commitment to education and the students of Goshen High School," chairman of the selection committee for IBA Tom Dean stated in a press release. "His bands have achieved the rare distinction of being included in the Indiana Marching Band State Finals, Concert Band State Finals, Jazz Ensemble State Finals, Indiana Percussion Association State Finals, and Winter Guard State Finals. This is a clear indication that the culture and health of the band program is exemplary."
