Great news for Primary Health Properties PLC (LON:PHP): Insiders acquired stock in large numbers last year

Generally, when a single insider buys stock, it is usually not a big deal. However, when several insiders are buying, like in the case of Primary Health Properties PLC (LON:PHP), it sends a favourable message to the company's shareholders.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Primary Health Properties

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by CFO & Director Richard Howell for UK£92k worth of shares, at about UK£1.37 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of UK£1.45. While their view may have changed since the purchase was made, this does at least suggest they have had confidence in the company's future. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices.

Primary Health Properties Insiders Bought Stock Recently

There was some insider buying at Primary Health Properties over the last quarter. Independent Non-Executive Chairman Steven Owen shelled out UK£15k for shares in that time. We like it when there are only buyers, and no sellers. But in this case the amount purchased means the recent transaction may not be very meaningful on its own.

Insider Ownership

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 0.9% of Primary Health Properties shares, worth about UK£18m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Do The Primary Health Properties Insider Transactions Indicate?

Our data shows a little insider buying, but no selling, in the last three months. Overall the buying isn't worth writing home about. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. Overall we don't see anything to make us think Primary Health Properties insiders are doubting the company, and they do own shares. So these insider transactions can help us build a thesis about the stock, but it's also worthwhile knowing the risks facing this company. For example, Primary Health Properties has 3 warning signs (and 2 which can't be ignored) we think you should know about.
