House Movers: Two Sisters Realtors enjoying work together

Hope Young Margelot and Heather Young Howard tackle the local real estate market together as Two Sisters Realtors.

They work through Risner & Associates Realty.

“JoAnn Risner is our mentor and our aunt,” Margelot said. “She’s been doing this for 48 years. She’s seen it all and she’s a wonderful mentor.”

Margelot is the oldest by 11 years.

“Heather is the baby,” she said. “We grew up in different decades. I babysat her. But we’re really close. We laugh all the time.”

Margelot came to real estate in 2013, after years of working in advertising at the Messenger-Inquirer and selling insurance.

“I regret that I didn’t start doing this sooner,” she said.

Howard worked in marketing at Canteen Service Co.

She became a Realtor in 2021.

They’ve worked together since then.

“I have three children,” Howard said. “And I need something that lets me do both full time.”

“We have such a good time,” Margelot said. “It’s so much fun. But we’re working too.”

Rising interest rates and low inventories have hurt home sales in the past couple of years.

“Inventory is still low, but values are still very strong,” Margelot said. “The first quarter was very good for us. In fact, it’s been one of the best since I’ve been doing this.”

She said, “We see people from diverse walks of life. Some of them become good friends.”

Margelot said, “We sold a house to a new college graduate a month ago. And we had a house under contract within 24 hours of it coming on the market. Every day is something new.”

She said, “We work as a team. We have different strengths. Heather is more into marketing and I’m more up front. We communicate very well.”

Margelot said sisters working together is a family tradition.

“Our mom was a hairstylist and she worked with her sister,” she said. “We mirror that.”

Selling real estate may involve working weird hours sometimes, but Margelot said, “This gives up control of our schedules.”

Howard is a five-year cancer survivor, still doing great.

“God has blessed us so much,” Margelot said. “Our theme is Matthew 5:16 — “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
