Yahoo Finance Hublot Just Announced Five OTT Watches
Hublot, the Swiss watchmaker defined by its experimental use of luxury materials, has announced several innovative new watches for 2021.
The first is the Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire. As its name hints, it is the latest in a line of colourful sapphire cases produced exclusively by the company, following models in transparent, black, yellow, blue and red. Hublot says this is the first time orange sapphire has been used in a watch this way.
Even without the attention-grabbing colourway, this is not a watch for wallflowers. Its case is 45mm in diameter and 15.33mm thick with a new tourbillon-enhanced movement visible with through the transparent dial – complex skeletonisation being another Hublot calling card. The Big Bang Tourbillon Automatic Orange Sapphire comes on a bright orange strap, is limited to 50 pieces, and retails for an appropriately bold £124,000.
Hublot has also unveiled the Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve Carbon White. Spirit of Big Bang watches represent a yet more experimental side of Hublot’s range, with barrel-shaped cases, multi-layered workings and a head-spinning host of complications. This new 44mm manual-winder has a lightweight carbon fibre case, a skeletonised tourbillon and a five-day indicator on the dial. Something of a feat of geometrical engineering, the hours and minutes are positioned to the side at three o’clock, the tourbillon cage is at six o'clock, and the power reserve indicator at eight o'clock. An edition of 10, the Spirit of Big Bang Tourbillon 5-Day Power Reserve Carbon White will set you back £70,000.
Next there is Classic Fusion Orlinski 40mm, the latest in a collaborative line with the French artist and techno DJ, Richard Orlinski, who\s best known for his giant resin sculptures of panthers, lions, crocodiles and a giant King Kong-a-like monkey, named Kong. Available in blue and black – favoured Orlinski colours – the entire case is made from ceramic, giving these watches a sculpted, futuristic feel. These examples of “artwork to be worn on the wrist” are 40mm in diameter, are not limited and retail for £10,000.
Finally, Hublot has announced two new versions of its Big Bang MP-11 model, in two new cases showcasing the brand’s love of high-tech materials. One uses its signature “Magic Gold”, a super-tough gold alloy of its own invention, something the company markets as “virtually scratchproof”. The other features a translucent sapphire case that reflects light from the skeletonised inside workings like a cut gem. Both watches feature the Big Bang MP-11 Magic Gold’s signature 45mm faceted integrated case, with a whopping 14-day power reserve made possible by seven in-series mainspring barrel visible through the dial. Limited to 50 units each, it’s £66,000 for the blue model and £97,000 for the gold.
