Insiders at LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (NYSE:LYB) sold US$1.4m worth of stock, possibly indicating weakness in the future

Over the past year, many LyondellBasell Industries N.V. (NYSE:LYB) insiders sold a significant stake in the company which may have piqued investors' interest. When analyzing insider transactions, it is usually more valuable to know whether insiders are buying versus knowing if they are selling, as the latter sends an ambiguous message. However, if numerous insiders are selling, shareholders should investigate more.

Although we don't think shareholders should simply follow insider transactions, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At LyondellBasell Industries

The Executive VP & General Counsel, Jeffrey Kaplan, made the biggest insider sale in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$990k worth of shares at a price of US$98.99 each. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of US$97.48. While we don't usually like to see insider selling, it's more concerning if the sales take place at a lower price. In this case, the big sale took place at around the current price, so it's not too bad (but it's still not a positive).
