Jay Bouwmeester undergoes successful procedure after mid-game collapse
The St. Louis Blues provided an update on the status of defenceman Jay Bouwmeester on Friday morning, after a successful procedure linked to the cardiac episode that caused him to collapse on the bench during Tuesday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks.
Bouwmeester underwent a Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) procedure Friday, the Blues stated in a press release.
The device functions to restore the heart’s normal rhythm.
For now, the 36-year-old remains in Anaheim at UC Irvine Medical Center, and will be flown back to St. Louis upon his release from the facility.
Bouwmeester collapsed on the Blues’ bench during the first period of Tuesday game. He was rushed to hospital from the arena and both teams agreed to postpone the rest of the game until a later date.
The Blues are expected to provide a further update on his status early next week.
