Jeep: Four EVs coming by 2025, including Wrangler-like 'Recon'

On Thursday, Jeep (STLA) took the next step into its electric future, one the automaker hopes its off-roading fans will want to embrace.

As part of its electrification strategy, Jeep says it will aim to have electrified models across its U.S. product range by 2025. Jeep hopes 50% of sales will generate from battery electrics (BEV) in the U.S. by 2030, with 100% of sales in Europe. Jeep also intends to use the “4xe” nomenclature for its electric offerings.

To meet its goals, the brand will introduce four new all-electric EVs by 2025, with three models revealed today: The Jeep Recon, the Jeep Wagoneer S, and the Jeep Avenger.

On a call with reporters, Jeep’s North America head Jim Morrison said its clients are looking to go electric.

“What we learned from our customers is they love electrified Jeeps,” Morrison said when referencing the strong sales of the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid.

The most highly-anticipated EV is the Jeep Recon.

Jeep says it is a rugged vehicle with “true trail-rated capability with Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management system, e-locker axle technology, under-body protection, tow hooks, and aggressive off-road tires.”

“The all-new, all-electric Jeep Recon has the capability to cross the mighty Rubicon Trail, one of the most challenging off-road trails in the U.S., and reach the end of the trail with enough range to drive back to town and recharge,” Jeep CEO Christian Meunier said in a statement.

The Recon will most likely mimic the go-anywhere Wrangler, with its trail-rated off-road system, removable doors and glass, and one-touch power top.

Stepping up into the luxury segment will be the Wagoneer S, another fully electric vehicle with a sleek, aero-like appearance, but also housing a standard 4x4 system.

The performance and luxury-oriented Wagoneer S will produce 600 hp and have a targeted range of 400 miles, Jeep says.

Both the Recon and Wagoneer S will be available in the U.S. and Europe, beginning production in 2024.

However, the all-new Jeep Avenger electric compact SUV will only be available in Europe and other markets like Japan and South Korea.

Jeep says the Avenger will be positioned under the Jeep Renegade SUV and built at Stellantis’s plant in Tychy, Poland. The Avenger is targeting a 400 KM range, and the vehicle is “rightsized for the European market.”

The Avenger will debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 17th and arrive in showrooms early next year.
