Kate Ferdinand has enjoyed a moment to herself, revealing she did her hair and make-up for the first time since giving birth six weeks ago.

In a totally relatable post shared to Instagram, the new mum opened up about how she’s been struggling to carve out some time away from her baby and step children.

The 29-year-old former reality TV star shared a photo of herself with a full face of make-up and her hair in loose curls, alongside the sweet response of her step-daughter, Tia, to her polished look.

“Today was a good day, I did my hair & makeup for the first time in 6 weeks,” she wrote.

The former TOWIE star wore a black, V-neck long-sleeved top as she smiled for the photo and told her 1.4million fans that her nine-year-old stepdaughter’s reaction was to say: “Kate's back!”

The new mum, who is also stepmother to husband Rio Ferdinand’s sons Lorenz, 14, and 12-year-old Tate, went on to announce she had also registered the birth of her baby boy, Cree.

Having had to leave the newborn at home, because of COVID-19 restrictions, she explained that she’d enjoyed having a little child-free time.

“It was also the first time in 6 weeks I’ve left the house with no kids or dogs,” she explained.

“I shouted woo-hoo as I left. No joke!

“Mums I hope you can feel me here, we love our kids so much but wow it was nice to get out and think in peace without hearing ‘Kate, Kate, where’s Kate?’ Or a baby crying,” the new mum continued.

“I’ve been jealous of Rio leaving for work suited and booted, putting on his aftershave with a little spring in his step while I’m looking like I’ve been dragged through a hedge!!

“Anyway, it was a good day... back at the mad house now, in my pjs, with a little bit more patience (not sure how long for though.”

Since sharing her honest post, Ferdinand has been inundated with comments from other parents who can relate to the struggle for some alone time.

“I’m hearing you here; I now get dressed up and put make-up on just to go to the supermarket and then sit in the car child free for half an hour on my own,” one person wrote.

“Every mum feels what you have written just not everyone admits it,” another agreed.

“You being so real and raw will be helping so many women right now!! Thank you,” a third person praised the star.

Other parents shared similar stories of finding joy in leaving the house alone, even when where they are going isn’t particularly exciting.

“I feel you! I was skipping out the house when I had to go to the dentist for a root canal, first time being apart from my baby boy felt so strange but also I really needed it to feel normal for an hour,” one shared.

“I was at work today and skipped out the door saying woo hoo as my hubby had to homeschool,” another parent commented.

“Totally get you, I had an appointment at the mole clinic today, never been so excited to get out on my own,” yet another person shared.

Since welcoming her baby in December 2020, Ferdinand has regularly been praised by fans for opening up about the highs and lows of new motherhood.

Earlier this month, she shared an adorable note from her stepchildren who were attempting to console her as she struggled to cope with her emotions.

Ferdinand went on to admit she had been struggling with anxiety during her first few weeks as a new mum.

“Just when I thought the screaming baby would drown out the sound of my tears, I get this through the door, asif [sic] I wasn’t emotional enough,” she wrote in the caption.

“To new mums, mums, step mums... and anyone who is struggling in lockdown, I feel you! Sometimes we just need to sneak in our room and have a little cry... even then, because of lockdown, we may have lots of little ears listening in.”

The former reality TV star went on to explain that a combination of having a new baby, her step children at home and lack of sleep has contributed to her feeling emotional.

“I feel like I’m a robot going through the same routine daily, feed baby, wind baby, wait for him to wake and repeat,” she says.

Ferdinand recently opened up about her early days of parenting, admitting that she has found some moments “overwhelming”.

She conducted an Instagram Q&A where she let fans ask her about how she was coping with new motherhood.

After one person asked her how she was feeling, she responded that she’d been feeling a mixture of emotions since her son’s birth.

“I am slowly feeling better each day, it’s a gradual recovery and I’m taking it really easy but it’s good to be seeing little improvements daily,” she responded.

“I’ve always been super emotional. Whatever I’m feeling everyone always knows. I like to wear my heart on my sleeve.

“Since giving birth my emotions are still all over the place, I cry often... I feel so happy with our beautiful new addition but often have moments of feeling overwhelmed.

“I don't know whether I'm coming or going most days.”

Having given birth to baby Cree by emergency C-section, Ferdinand has also been praised for sharing honest images revealing the huge bruises she was left with afterwards.

Equally, the new mum was grateful to her fans for their support over the raw pictures of her post-birth body.

“I was overwhelmed by all of your comments on my recent picture,” she wrote.

“Sometimes social media can be such a negative place but since sharing this post it has been so positive for me. I was nervous about sharing my reality but so glad I did.

“So many of you have had similar experiences and share the same feelings and emotions. It is nice to know we are not alone.”
