Remote access giant TeamViewer says Russian spies hacked its corporate network
TeamViewer, the company that makes widely used remote access tools for companies, has confirmed an ongoing cyberattack on its corporate network. In a statement Friday, the company attributed the compromise to government-backed hackers working for Russian intelligence, known as APT29 (and Midnight Blizzard). TeamViewer said that the cyberattack "was contained" to its corporate network and that the company keeps its internal network and customer systems separate.

Amazon is reviewing whether Perplexity AI improperly scraped online content
Amazon is reviewing claims that the artificial intelligence startup Perplexity AI is scraping content — including from prominent news sites — without approval. Amazon spokesperson Samantha Mayowa confirmed Friday that the tech giant was assessing information it received from the news outlet WIRED, which published an investigation earlier this month that said Perplexity appeared to scrape content from websites that had prohibited access from such practices. Perplexity uses servers by Amazon Web Services, otherwise known as AWS.

Teamviewer accuses Russia-linked hackers of cyberattack
The group, also known as "Cozy Bear" or Midnight Blizzard, is alleged by Western intelligence to act on behalf of Russia's foreign spy agency. In March, Alphabet's Mandiant cyber unit said it had caught the hacking group trying to trick "key German political figures" into opening a phishing email. The German software company, which specialises in cloud-based technologies, said in a statement that the group gained access to its corporate IT environment but not to its product environment or customer data on Wednesday.
