Lesaka Technologies Insider Ups Holding During Year

Insiders were net buyers of Lesaka Technologies, Inc.'s (NASDAQ:LSAK ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders bought more stock than they sold.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Lesaka Technologies

Notably, that recent purchase by Executive Chairman Ali Mazanderani was not the only time they bought Lesaka Technologies shares this year. They previously made an even bigger purchase of US$1.1m worth of shares at a price of US$3.30 per share. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of US$4.85. While it does suggest insiders consider the stock undervalued at lower prices, this transaction doesn't tell us much about what they think of current prices.

Insider Ownership Of Lesaka Technologies

Many investors like to check how much of a company is owned by insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Lesaka Technologies insiders own about US$14m worth of shares. That equates to 4.6% of the company. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Does This Data Suggest About Lesaka Technologies Insiders?

It's certainly positive to see the recent insider purchase. We also take confidence from the longer term picture of insider transactions. But on the other hand, the company made a loss during the last year, which makes us a little cautious. Insiders likely see value in Lesaka Technologies shares, given these transactions (along with notable insider ownership of the company). While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
