London police are investigating four sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, according to The Sunday Times and Associated Press.

One of the plaintiffs is 54-year-old British actress Lysette Anthony, star of the 1980s movie "Krull", who is now better known to UK audiences as an actor on the "Hollyoaks" soap opera.

There is no statute of limitations on sex offences in the UK.

British police have had success recently in securing convictions and prison sentences against celebrities who used their fame to assault women and children.

Children's TV show entertainer Rolf Harris was given a sentence of five years and nine months in 2014 on charges of nine counts of indecent assault from the 1980s. Singer Gary Glitter is currently serving 16 years in prison for crimes committed prior to 2012.

that Weinstein assaulted her in the late 1980s:

"... she claims that she became friendly with Weinstein after meeting him in New York. But everything changed when she met him for a drink at his rented home in Chelsea a few years later. 'The next thing I knew he was half undressed and he grabbed me,' she said.

'It was the last thing I expected and I fled. That was when the predatory stalking began.'

One day he turned up at her flat at about 10am: 'He pushed me inside and rammed me up against the coat rack . . . He was trying to kiss me and shove inside me.' She pushed him away but he was too heavy: 'Finally I just gave up.'

Anthony confirmed the story by praising the paper for writing the article.

"In order to cope I tried to forget..am most grateful for this touch of class after all the years of terror & brutish bullying," she tweeted. She also shared a reference number for a crime report she had made with Merseyside police.

London Metropolitan Police also said they were investigating three more complaints relating to another woman. "It is alleged that the man sexually assaulted a woman in Westminster in 2010 and 2011, and in Camden in 2015," a spokesman for Scotland Yard told the AP.

More than 26 other women have accused Weinstein of assault. But no police in either the US nor the UK have ever brought charges against him. Weinstein has denied allegations of rape.
