Maceio city hall requests damages deal with Braskem to be revised
SAO PAULO, Dec 6 (Reuters) - The city hall of Brazil's northeastern city of Maceio has requested that its 1.7 billion-real ($347.14 million) deal with petrochemical firm Braskem over sinking ground be renegotiated due to "fresh damages", it said on Wednesday.
Maceio's civil defense office warned last week that Braskem's salt mine number 18, located near a lake in the Mutange neighborhood, was at imminent risk of collapse. Braskem had reached the reparations deal with Maceio in July. ($1 = 4.8971 reais) (Reporting by Alberto Alerigi Jr.; Editing by Steven Grattan)
