Yahoo Finance Man, 60, jailed 14 months for molesting 12-year-old boy
SINGAPORE — A 60-year-old man lured a 12-year-old boy to a staircase landing of an HDB block, and then twice pulled down his shorts and underwear, a court heard.
When the victim resisted his advances, Mohamad Taha Ahmad groped his genitals over his shorts.
At the State Courts on Thursday (1 April), the culprit was jailed for 14 months after pleading guilty to one charge of molestation.
On 22 October last year, Taha went up to the victim at Bedok Interchange and struck up a conversation with him. When the victim boarded a bus, Taha followed and continued talking to him.
The victim alighted the bus shortly after and Taha tailed him. He asked the victim for help with something, without elaborating, and the latter agreed to follow him.
Inside the lift of a HDB block, Taha asked the victim about the size of his underwear and offered him $10. When they got to the 12th floor landing, Taha pulled the victim's shorts and underwear down from the front.
The victim tried to get away but Taha instead pulled the latter's shorts and underwear down from the back. Shortly after, the culprit grabbed the victim's genitals over his shorts.
Taha then asked the victim to follow him to another staircase landing but the victim took the stairs down the block instead to get away.
The next day, the victim reported the incident to a teacher who told him to make a police report.
For molesting a person under 14, Taha could have been jailed for up to five years and also fined. Male offenders below 50 can also be caned.
