Disney+ has revealed that the second season of The Mandalorian will air in October this year, along with premiere dates for its new Marvel TV shows.

In an earnings call to shareholders, Disney boss Bob Iger outlined details of the current slate, with the acclaimed Star Wars spin-off show making a pretty rapid return.

The first series aired when Disney+ launched in November last year in the US. We'll get the first season of the show in the UK when it lands on 24 March, so will have even less time to wait until the lone bounty hunter returns.

Iger said that characters in the show will take their 'stories in new directions', which seemed to hint at rumours that the show could itself spin-off with other dedicated series, or even enter into the Star Wars movie universe.

The report from Disney also noted staggering take-up numbers for the new streaming service, which had brought together all of Disney's movies (as well as Fox content following its acquisition last year) and TV shows in one place.

In just three months, it's brought in 28.6 million paying subscribers, up from the 26 million it notched up before New Year.

Iger also revealed the air dates for the anticipated new Marvel content on the platform.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan as the Avenger alums, will debut in August.

It'll follow Mackie's Sam Wilson – aka the Falcon – as he inherits the title of Captain America, passed on to him by Chris Evans' Steve Rogers at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

Meanwhile, WandaVision, the Marvel 'sitcom' featuring Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff – aka Scarlet Witch – and Paul Bettany's Vision, will drop in December.

Per the Mouse House, the series 'blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision - two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives - begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems'.

However, there was no specific news on Loki, the spin-off of Tim Hiddleston's character from the Marvel universe, nor the plans for the Hawkeye series.

But Hiddleston's Loki did appear in the Disney+ Super Bowl ad, and thanks to what appeared to be prison garms, has set the rumour mill ablaze.
