Every time the two Tkachuk brothers face off against one another, it’s must-see television, and Thursday’s game didn’t disappoint.
The battle between the Calgary Flames and the Ottawa Senators is a mismatch in the standings, but when it comes to the individual battle between Calgary’s Matthew and Ottawa’s Brady, it appears to be fairly even.
That was on full display when the Sens captain shoved his brother to the ice, and Matthew promptly retaliated with a full-on slash to the groin.

The Senators ended up winning the match by a score of 4-1, propelled by a two-goal game from forward Nick Paul — but that isn’t what is important here. The two related rascals had another moment in their mosaic of love in ways that only full-grown, professional-athlete brothers can.
Just a couple of months ago, in the early days of the 2021-22 season, the Tkachuks shared as Matthew admired Brady’s new letter on his chest (just a week or so earlier he was unveiled as the Sens’ new captain).
"Deep down, he knows I still make the calls when we're together in the summer,” Matthew said after that game. “He can be the captain for his team. ... But he knows who's the captain in the summer. It's probably my Mom, honestly. ... But when it’s me and him, he knows who it is."
The two sons of longtime NHLer Keith Tkachuk are stomping around the league making their mark, but their wild side truly comes out when they face each other.
Unfortunately, that happens only twice a season with the scheduling of inter-conference games. And with Matthew and his Flames earning the win in the first game and Brady snatching the second, the season series is a stalemate.
Maybe they’ll have their own off-ice competition in the summer to determine who truly won the series.
