Microsoft's sizzling AI-fueled rally pushes CEO Satya Nadella's total payouts to $1 billion

Microsoft's sizzling AI-fueled rally pushes CEO Satya Nadella's total payouts to $1 billion
  • Microsoft is having a blockbuster year, helping boost the CEO's total payouts to $1 billion.

  • The company recently added $154 billion to its market cap after revealing a new AI subscription.

  • Satya Nadella's haul means he joins an elite club of corporate CEOs that includes Tim Cook.

Microsoft has gone from strength to strength amid the AI boom – and it's helped push CEO Satya Nadella's total payouts from the company to $1 billion.

According to regulatory filings cited by Bloomberg, that's what his equity grants, salary, bonuses and dividends all add up to since he took the job in early 2014.

As an example, Nadella's total compensation was about $55 million in 2022, including a $2.5 million salary, $10 million in cash incentives, and $42 million in stock awards, according to Microsoft's latest proxy statement.

But it's the near-1,000% rise in the company's share price since he became CEO that's largely behind the surge.

Microsoft recently added $154 billion to its market cap in a day after it announced a $30 AI subscription for its Office 365 platform. That's equivalent to the entire net worth of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The Windows maker has enjoyed a 48% share rally this year after its $10 billion investment in OpenAI's large-language tool ChatGPT kicked off an AI frenzy among investors.

Microsoft closed Wednesday at $355, valuing it at just over $2.6 trillion.

The billion-dollar haul puts Nadella an elite club of CEOs that includes Apple's Tim Cook.

Other CEOs have benefitted even more from the AI frenzy, such as Nvidia's Jensen Huang, who is now worth $42 billion.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Insider, made outside normal working hours.

Frank Shaw, a Microsoft representative, told Bloomberg that Nadella did not have a net worth of $1 billion and declined to comment further.
