'No Fuss' Hen Party Ends In Rescue By Lifeboat Crew

A bride-to-be who was on a "no fuss and low key" hen party outing had to be rescued with her three friends after a scenic boat trip went wrong.

Ms Sanderson and friends Laura White, Ann Peters and Natalie Pyne were celebrating her forthcoming wedding on the River Dart, near Dartmouth in Devon, when the boat they were in became stuck in mud as the tide went out.

Dart RNLI said the boat had "gone aground on an ebbing tide" in Old Mill Creek shortly before 7.30pm on Saturday.

A rescue crew used mud mats to enable the women to be transferred to a lifeboat.

The women were found to be cold but were otherwise unhurt and they were taken to the lifeboat station to warm up with a hot drink.

An RNLI spokesman said: "The irony is the bride-to-be had requested a 'no fuss and low key' day.

"The hens who had arranged the day thought an afternoon afloat on the beautiful River Dart would set the mood for dinner in Dartmouth in the evening. Best laid plans and all of that.

"I don't think they will ever forget the hen party.

"Amy, all at Dart RNLI wish you a wonderful wedding day and don't forget to send us a snap."
