If everything ‘90s is currently en vogue, then it’s only natural that our attention should once again turn to enfants terribles and iconic duo of that era: Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.

While you might only just remember them as the rock’n’roll couple whose penchant for filming home videos lead to the murky world of leaked celebrity sex tapes, the real story is even wilder. Which is why Hulu have commissioned an eight-part series of their turbulent relationship - and the first pictures suggest that they’ve got the casting for the pair spot on.

While we wait for more leaked footage to go viral again - this time, it’s legit - here’s everything we know about the dramatisation of the Baywatch star and the drummer of Mötley Crüe:

What’s the series all about?

The clue’s in the title, duh. Back in 1995, there were only a few celebrity couples worth caring about: Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss and Johnny Depp, and Pamela and Tommy. But only one twosome really gave us some really wild column inches - and that was Pam and Tommy, from the very first seconds of their romance.

The couple met on New Year’s Eve in 1994, when Tommy - in his band’s autobiography The Dirt - romantically remembers he was off his face on Es and Champagne, and went over to Pamela and “licked her face from chin to temple”.

He then tracked her down to a hotel she was staying in Cancun, wearing his “dirtiest fucking leather pants... and old T-shirt that stank of B.O.”, the charmer, and within 96 hours, the couple were married on the Mexican beach, with Pam sporting that famous white string bikini.

The newlyweds celebrated their union with a non-stop sex fest. Pamela said previously: "Tommy and I were naked at all times. We videoed lots of different things in our life and we put all of the tapes and video cameras in a safe."

Ah, yes, the safe. Actually a massive misnomer, as a few months after their honeymoon, a disgruntled ex-employee of theirs, electrician Rand Gauthier, claimed he was owed $20,000 for work which they refused to pay. So, in a plot twist straight out of a Hollywood movie, he arranged a heist and stole the entire safe which contained many of the compromising videos of the two at it.

The series will tell the story of how the stolen sex tape made its way not only to millions of eyes on the internet - it made an estimated $77 million in a year - but how it led to the couple becoming a cultural phenomenon off the back of it.

Who’s starring in the series?

In the first release of pictures, the actor playing Pamela is truly unrecognisable. Underneath the tower of peroxide hair and skin-tight leather corset is actually Lily James, better known for playing parts in period dramas such as Downton Abbey, The Pursuit of Love and Rebecca (also Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again).

Tommy is played by Sebastian Stan, a regular face in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but undergoing his biggest transformation yet: tattooed and pierced rawk dude.

And Seth Rogen - also producing the series - is taking a break from his matey stoner characters to play the villain of the piece, Gauthier, who stole the tape. Although going from his get-up and mullet, it looks like he might fall more on the side of hapless would-be thief, rather than criminal mastermind.

Meanwhile, we’re told to expect to see Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation) and Taylor Schilling from Orange Is the New Black, in the production.

What happened to the couple in the end?

It all got very dark. After having two boys - Brandon Thomas and Dylan Jagger - Tommy was arrested for spousal abuse of Pamela and served six months in LA County Jail. The couple divorced in 1998, just three years after their whirlwind relationship.

Is there a Pam & Tommy trailer?

Unfortunately no, not yet, as we’re sure it’s going to break the internet when it’s released. Same for a release date, there’s nothing concrete as yet.

Are Pamela or Tommy involved in the production?

No, and according to several account, they’re kind of pissed off about it. One tabloid said Pamela and her family “think the show is a cheap knockoff” and won’t be watching. The couple look set to have their world turned upside down again by a film they haven’t authorised, once again.
