The release of John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place Part II is being delayed globally by Paramount Pictures, as first reported by Deadline.

The horror sequel had its world premiere in New York on 8 March, 2020 and was due to be released in the UK on 18 March.

The trade paper says that UK cinemas were notified this morning that the film is being postponed across Europe, but have not been told of a new proposed release date.

Krasinski himself confirmed the news on Twitter, saying that in the “ever-changing circumstances of what’s going on in the world around us, now is not the right time”.

“As insanely excited as we are for all of you to see this movie... I’m going to wait to release the film til we CAN all see it together!”

Starring Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Noah Jupe and Millicent Simmonds, the film is a sequel to Krasinski’s 2018 hit, which portrayed a near future with the world overrun by deadly aliens who hunt using sound.

Yahoo has contacted Paramount for comment.

Krasinski and the cast were due to travel to London next week for a press junket, but that has now been postponed, as has a press preview screening due to take place in London on Friday, 13 March.

Paramount had previously told CNN it had no plans to move the release date of the film.

The delay follows the postponement of the March release of Peter Rabbit 2 by Sony Pictures to August, and the April release of James Bond film No Time To Die to November.
