Rolls Royce clinches largest ever client order
LONDON (ShareCast) - Rolls Royce (LSE: RR.L - news) has announced its largest ever order win, cementing its position as the favoured supplier of power plants for Airbus's signature A380 aircraft. Middle Eastern carrier Emirates has ordered $9.2bn-worth of the company's Trent (BSE: TRENT.BO - news) 900 engines.
The aircraft engine manufacturer, which is also a leading provider of the associated services, emphasised how it had now gained over half of the market share for that aircraft.
John Rishton, Rolls-Royce's chief executive officer, highlighted the success achieved by the Dubai-based carrier over the last three decades.
For his part, Emirates Airline boss Sir Tim Clark congratulated the UK manufacturer for its ability to ability to continually improve the economic and operational performance of the Trent 900, as well as the positive impact it would have on UK and European manufacturing.
The Trent 900 'power plant' has now logged over 4m in-service flight hours, Rolls Royce said.
The engine offers the lowest lifetime fuel burn, with the latest version including technology developed for the Trent XWB and Trent 1000 engines, the company added in a statement.
As of 14:00 shares in Rolls Royce were losing 0.24% to 977.67p, about 10.4% below its 52-week high.
