The Weakest Link is coming back to our screens soon with a brand new host.

Comedian Romesh Ranganathan is taking over from Anne Robinson, who is now hosting Countdown.

But the Taskmaster favourite said he won't be trying to recreate Anne's acid-tongued put downs to contestants.

"The way that Anne did it was brilliant and I don't know that I could get away with that," he told iNews. "I don't think I've got that in me, to take it to that level."

Speaking of him getting the job, Romesh continued: "I didn't think I would ever do a show like Weakest Link. It's kind of unexpected and I thought about it long and hard.

"There were two things to think about: can I do this in a way that I'll be good at, and would people enjoy that version of the show? I'm genuinely really excited about it, because I think we've found a really good way of doing it."

"I used to love Weakest Link and the idea of doing it in my own way, a new version of it, I found really exciting," he added.

"But I do find it slightly scary, doing something that big and so iconic."

Romesh previously said when the reboot was announced: "It's an honour to be asked to bring back what is basically a TV institution to our screens.

"Anne was an amazing host and to step into her shoes is an anxiety-inducing privilege. I'm hoping we've found a way to make both the fans of the show happy as well as bringing a new audience to it. If not, accept this as my apology."

The Weakest Link returns to BBC One later this year.
