RWE faces payment deadline for Russian gas at end-May - CFO

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - RWE faces a payment obligation for Russian gas at the end of May, its chief financial officer said on Thursday, adding he expected the German government to comment soon on the issue, which has led to confusion among European gas buyers.

Speaking to journalists after presenting strong first-quarter results, Michael Mueller declined to say whether the utility had opened a rouble account with Gazprombank as a way to enable payments under Moscow's proposed scheme.
