Whenever a high-profile (and high dollar value) lawsuit is filed, the first thing the side being sued does is try and get the case dismissed. That’s exactly what Disney did after Gina Carano sued the studio following her firing from "The Mandalorian." Disney hoped to get the lawsuit tossed on a First Amendment basis, but the judge has dismissed that claim, and the suit will move forward, at least for now. Disney argued in front of U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett that the studio had the right to sever its relationship with Carano because she did not espouse viewpoints that the company agreed with. According to THR, the judge stated that the First Amendment could not be used as a shield to potentially violate discrimination laws. Carano is arguing that in firing her she was discriminated against and that the studio violated California labor laws in terminating her.

A key figure behind the flawed IT system that led to hundreds of sub-postmasters being wrongly jailed has told the Post Office inquiry he had "not remembered" legal advice he was given about his obligations as an expert witness. Former senior Fujitsu engineer Gareth Jenkins was crucial in the prosecutions process because he was one of the architects of the Horizon accounting systems and one of a few people to have extensive knowledge of their workings. At the start of his second day of evidence, he admitted under questions from counsel to the inquiry Jason Beer KC that he would have read the document in 2006, after it was shown he had been copied in.

PARIS (Reuters) -Engine maker CFM's wariness to ramp up supplies significantly to Airbus at a time of stress for its other key customer Boeing was likely one factor in Airbus' move to delay planned jet output increases, industry sources said on Tuesday. On Monday, Airbus delayed a multi-year hike in narrowbody production, cut profit forecasts and trimmed its 2024 delivery target, blaming shortages of engines and other parts and sending shares in Europe's largest aerospace group tumbling on Tuesday. CFM, a transatlantic venture of GE Aerospace and France's Safran, makes LEAP engines that power all Boeing 737 MAX jets and typically just over half of the competing Airbus A320neo family, where they compete with the Geared Turbofan of RTX subsidiary Pratt & Whitney.

STORY: Microsoft is in trouble with the EU over its popular collaboration app Teams, and could face a big fine.Antitrust regulators charged the U.S. tech giant on Tuesday (June 25) of illegally bundling the product with its Office software, making it hard for rivals to compete. They said the app was given a distribution advantage - while limitations preventing interactions between Teams competitors and Microsoft's offerings hurt rivals.They also said recent moves to unbundle the package were insufficient and more needed to be done.The European Commission warned Microsoft needed to make more changes to restore competition.The move was triggered by a complaint four years ago by Salesforce-owned messaging app Slack.Teams was added to Office 365 in 2017 for free, and replaced Skype for Business.Its popularity soared during the pandemic due in part to its video conferencing.Microsoft said it would work find solutions.In April, it separated Teams from Office globally to try to resolve EU antitrust concerns.If the company was fined, it would be the first such punishment in two decades for Microsoft in Europe.

China hits back at West's over-capacity allegations in EVs, lithium batteries
DALIAN, China (Reuters) -China's Premier Li Qiang used his address at a World Economic Forum meeting in Dalian to hit back at accusations from the U.S. and EU that Chinese firms benefit from unfair subsidies and are poised to flood their markets with cheap green technologies. Li's comments come as China and the European Union prepare to host technical talks on the planned imposition of tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles (EVs) imported into the 27-strong bloc and after the United States unveiled steep tariff hikes on an array of Chinese imports, including EV batteries, in May. "China's production of advanced electric vehicles, lithium-ion batteries and photovoltaic products, etcetera, first met our domestic demand, but also enrich global supply," Li said in opening remarks in the northeastern Chinese city on Tuesday.
