Who doesn't love a cosy and stylish bathroom to relax and unwind in after a long, hard day? And if that bathroom can add thousands of pounds to your home's value, even better.

The bathroom experts at Plumbnation scoured Google to find out what people have been searching for in home improvement and have revealed the most popular bathroom trends that can really up the ante and add value to your home.

Superior quality bathroom tiles, especially with good grouting, are a great feature statement to add to any size bathroom. If you're looking to spend a little more money on renovations, freestanding bathtubs, electric showers or wet rooms could be the perfect feature for you to really make your bathroom stand out.

The 10 most popular bathroom trends are:

1. Bathroom tiles

2. Freestanding bathtubs

3. Electric shower

4. Wet rooms

5. Jacuzzi bath

6. Heated towel rack

7. Close coupled toilets

8. Back to wall toilets

9. Wall hung toilets

10. Bathroom suite

Wet rooms

Wet rooms are the fourth most popular Google search with 246,700 annual searches. Installing a wet room into your bathroom is said to add between £2,000 - £5,000 to your home. 'Wet rooms have grown in popularity in recent years, but are much like marmite, as many house hunters still like to have access to a bathtub. It’s not so much an issue in homes with multiple bathrooms and in those cases can be a welcome bonus, but property owners should seriously consider avoiding converting their only bathroom into a wet room,' property expert Kev Tilley from Mortgageable explains.

Underfloor heating

You can heat up your after-shower toes and your bank balance at the same time by adding underfloor heating to your home. Apparently everyone loves a warm bathroom floor and it can add up to £7,000 to your property. Underfloor bathroom heating is the 28th most-searched-for bathroom trend with over 15,000 searches a year.

Double sink

'Adding a second sink or double sink vanity is extremely appealing, especially in homes with busy families or couples that only have one bathroom,' Kev Tilley reveals. 'The double sink used to be considered a luxury feature, but many have now realised it provides a practical solution and as a result, they have become much more common and desired by house hunters.'

En-suite

The en-suite remains the most desired addition when it comes to bathrooms. 'If you are considering any home upgrade and have the space and budget, an en-suite can seriously make a difference in increasing property value,' Jonathan Rolande reveals.

Buy how much, exactly? Marco Helliwell, founder and CEO of mypropertyadvice.com says: 'Adding an en-suite directly adds value to a property making, in most cases, the master bedroom more desirable. An extra bathroom can add up to £50k onto a property value!'
