Toyota Issues UK Car Recall Over Brakes

Toyota is recalling thousands of cars in Britain due to the discovery of a brake glitch.

It says 4,947 of its UK-registered Prius vehicles will be recalled for modification.

The Japanese manufacturer said a part used in the electronic braking system may not be strong enough and could crack.

It is the latest embarrassment for the firm, which has had to recall millions of vehicles over the last two years over a series of faults.

Toyota said the recall affected the third generation Prius built between March and October 2009.

The UK recall is part of a worldwide recall of about 242,000 vehicles over the brake fault.

Toyota's numerous design issues have affected the brand image, which was once renowned for quality and reliability.
