UK GAS-Prices fall on higher imports, oversupply

LONDON, Oct (Shenzhen: 000069.SZ - news) 12 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices fell on Thursday morning as higher imports from Norway contributed to an oversupplied market. * Within-day gas price down by 1.75 pence to 43.00 pence per therm at 0844 GMT. * Day-ahead gas price fell by 1.65 pence to 43.00 p/therm. * Gas traders said the end of some outages in Norway led to an increase in imports to Britain, while expectations of high output from Britain's wind farms had curbed demand for gas from gas-fired power stations. * Imports from Norway through the Langeled pipeline were around 42 mcm, up from around 20 mcm the previous day, Reuters data showed. * British gas system oversupplied by 20 million cubic metres with supply forecast at 235.2 mcm, and demand forecast at 215.2 mcm, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed. * An outage at Norway's Kollsnes gas processing plant and two field outages all ended on Thursday, operator Gassco said, boosting Norwegian exports. * Peak wind power generation is forecast at 8.3 gigawatts (GW) on Thursday, rising to 8.7 GW on Friday, National Grid data showed. * November gas contract down by 0.61 pence to 49.09 p/therm. * Day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub down by 0.43 euro to 16.77 euros per megawatt hour. * Benchmark Dec-17 EU carbon contract inched down by 0.02 euro to 7.36 euros per tonne. * Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) analyst view: http://emea1.apps.cp.extranet.thomsonreuters.biz/cms/?pageid=united-kingdom-gas (Reporting by Susanna Twidale; editing by Nina Chestney)
