VALLOUREC : Valinox Nucléaire is awarded two contracts for steam generators that will equip EDF 1,300MW power plants

Press Release

Valinox Nucléaire is awarded two contracts for steam generators that will equip EDF 1,300MW power plants

Boulogne-Billancourt, March 12, 2015 - Vallourec, the world leader in premium tubular solutions, is proud to announce that Valinox Nucléaire, its subsidiary specializing in the production of tubes for nuclear power plants, has been contracted by AREVA to manufacture tubes for eight steam generators that will equip two EDF 1,300MW reactors.

The two contracts, which testify to the expertise of the Group and confirm its position as a world leader in this highly specialized field, form part of EDF`s program, launched in 2011, to gradually replace the large components on its 1,300MW power plants.

Vallourec, a partner of France`s nuclear industry from the outset, is playing a key role in the country`s nuclear power plant renovation program, whose purpose is to extend the lifetime of existing reactors.

Nicolas de Coignac, Senior Vice President Power and Pipe Project Sector, said: "These contracts, which consolidate our partnership with AREVA, illustrate, once again, the know-how and excellence of the French nuclear industry."

Valinox Nucléaire will supply 5,300 nickel alloy tubes for each steam generator: 42,400 tubes in total. The tubes will be made in 2016 and 2017 at its Montbard plant in Burgundy, the birthplace of Vallourec`s nuclear activities.

These tubes are the only interface between the primary and the secondary system in pressurized water reactors. The tubes have a wall thickness of 1mm and transfer heat from the reactor to the secondary loop in order to produce steam that drives a high power turbine that generates electricity. They are a safety critical part of the nuclear power plant and their quality has impact on the reactor`s efficiency.

Vallourec and the nuclear industry
Since it was created in 1974, Valinox Nucléaire, which has one industrial site in France and one in China, has produced more than 40,000 km of tubes, the equivalent of the Earth`s circumference, and meets the highest and most demanding specifications to equip the main types of third generation pressurized water reactor. With 40 years of experience, Valinox Nucléaire is the world leader in steam generator tubes. Located in Montbard, Burgundy, since 1974, Valinox Nucléaire modernized its production facility in 2011 and opened its new plant in Guangzhou (Canton), south-east China, in June 2013 to accompany growth in the Chinese nuclear market and in the export market.

Vallourec, thorough Vallourec Heat Exchanger Tubes, is also the leader in titanium- and stainless steel-welded tubes for secondary systems. Since 1976, the company has supplied over 20,000 km of MSR (moisture separator steam reheater) tubes and over 75,000 km of titanium condenser tubes for nuclear power plants around the world.

Finally, the Group meets all of its clients` needs through a complete range of premium tubes, both in terms of dimensions and steel grades: seamless water and steam connection and transfer tubes for all of the nuclear power plant`s systems (primary, secondary and auxiliary).

Vallourec has a strong international presence and is located, for its nuclear activities, in France, Germany, China, South Korea, India and the United States, and is involved in nuclear projects around the world. In total, 75% of the nuclear power plants that are currently in operation or under construction in the world are fitted with Vallourec tubes.
