Vernon Kay put his old caretaker skills to the test during an at-home cleaning demonstration, showing followers how to mop the floor using his 'figure of 8' technique.

TV presenter and former model Vernon had showed his fellow I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! campmate Jordan North the mopping technique (learnt from his days at Bolton Council) when they were in the castle last year. And apparently, Vernon has since been inundated with messages from followers who have been using the figure of 8.

The dad-of-two, who is married to Tess Daly, told his followers that lockdown 3.0 was a good opportunity to get the house in order.

'This is the technique that will help you mop your floor perfectly, it’s the figure of 8,' says Vernon, as he commenced with a full tutorial.

Step 1: Prepare your bucket, add some hot water and your favourite floor cleaner (be careful not to mix cleaning products).

Step 2: Prepare your mop (Vernon used the Vileda Bucket & Torsio Wringer and Vileda Supermocio Mop). Once you've got it nice and wet, give it a good old ringing out and then 'throw it on the floor making sure that all the tentacles are spread out', says Vernon.

Step 3: Now here's the most important step of all – the figure of 8! Before you start mopping you need to prepare a frame for the area in which you’re going to mop. The figure of 8 when on its side has two rounded edges. To ensure that area doesn't get missed, create a frame around the outside of the area you're going to mop so that no area is left untouched. Once you start mopping, the head of the mop will scoop up all the hard particles and keep the dirt at the front of the mop.

Added Step 4: And rather importantly, in Vernon's own words: 'You have to mop with passion, and love.'

Lorna Watts, Marketing Manager from Vileda, comments: 'As Vernon has expertly demonstrated, the figure of 8 mopping technique is a great way to cover all areas and make sure your floor is super clean, and is a technique famously used by industry professionals.'
