Viewers moved by poignant Katie Price: Harvey and Me BBC One documentary
Katie Price was praised by viewers for her parenting to son Harvey, and for raising awareness about his disability in BBC One's moving documentary Harvey and Me.
The film followed Katie and 18-year-old Harvey as they explore the options of further education colleges and live-in care, while meeting other families with disabled young adults. The documentary also showed a different side to Katie Price, delving behind the tabloids to celebrate her loving and patient relationship with her son.
Harvey was born with septic optic dysplasia, a rare disorder that affects brain function, hormones and vision, and affects one in 10,000 births. He has a long list of medical and behavioural conditions, and his future is described as "unpredictable".
However, the programme was also uplifting as it showed Harvey being reunited with an old friend who had been through his transition year and was flourishing in college.
"Well done @KatiePrice for highlighting the difficult care decision parents of disabled children can face. Whilst highlighting a really important subject, it also showed the joy Harvey brings to his family & why inclusion is important. #harveyandme is worth a watch," one viewer tweeted.
Parents going through similar issues also thanked the TV star for candidly sharing her experiences, with one viewer commenting: "As a parent of a child with complex needs, I really enjoyed the @KatiePrice #HarveyandMe documentary on @BBCOne last night. Thank you @KatiePrice for sharing such a personal insight. Thank you."
