Voestalpine wins 10-year contract with engine maker Rolls-Royce

VIENNA, June 19 (Reuters) - Specialty steelmaker Voestalpine on Wednesday said it had agreed a 10-year deal to supply Rolls-Royce with materials for use in engine disks, landing its biggest contract so far in the engine segment.

Voestalpine materials and special forgings are already used in undercarriage, wing, and engine parts in Airbus, Boeing, Embraer and Bombardier models.

An industry source said the contract was worth at least 100 million euros.

The materials it will deliver for the rotating engine disks - which are a substantial part of the engine and have to absorb enormous pressure - will operate in conditions of up to 16,500 rotations per minute and temperatures over 2,000° Celsius, Voestalpine said.

The Linz-based company generates around 400 million euros ($448 million) revenue in the aerospace market, and expects that to increase to 500 million euros over the medium term. ($1 = 0.8929 euros) (Reporting by Alexandra Schwarz-Goerlich, Kirsti Knolle, editing by Deepa Babington)
