Week ahead: All eyes on Greek elections, Yellen speech

LONDON (ShareCast) - (ShareCast News) - When investors return from their weekend they will be asked to digest the result of the Greek general elections on 20 Sunday. A grand coalition with the left-wing Syriza party holding a majority, but alongside more moderate partners, is viewed as the most likely outcome by analysts - and as a 'positive' for 'political stability' in the country.

As regards 'hard' macroeconomic data, the latest Eurozone manufacturing sector purchasing managers' indices, for the month of September, are due on Wednesday. They are the most up-to-date and 'real-time' of all of the figures which come out of the euro area each month.

Investors will be looking for any sign of undue weakness as a result of the recent gyrations in global capital markets.

The latest reading on German business confidence is scheduled for release on Thursday, courtesy of the IFO institute. It (Other OTC: ITGL - news) too holds the potential to move markets.

Stateside, a speech from Fed chair Janet Yellen at Amherst University, in Massachusetts, may offer her the chance to add further colour on her remarks at last Thursday's post-FOMC press conference.

Thursday's durable goods orders numbers for August and the University of Michigan's final reading on consumer sentiment for September, on Friday, will be the most closely watched economic reports of the week on the other side of the Pond.

The flow of data in the UK will be limited to the latest public sector borrowing figures, on Tuesday, followed later on the same day by Confederation of British Industry's Industrial Trends Survey.
