Should You Be Worried About Insider Transactions At Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSE:EDR)?

It is not uncommon to see companies perform well in the years after insiders buy shares. Unfortunately, there are also plenty of examples of share prices declining precipitously after insiders have sold shares. So before you buy or sell Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSE:EDR), you may well want to know whether insiders have been buying or selling.

What Is Insider Buying?

It is perfectly legal for company insiders, including board members, to buy and sell stock in a company. However, most countries require that the company discloses such transactions to the market.

We would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing. But equally, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether. For example, a Harvard University study found that 'insider purchases earn abnormal returns of more than 6% per year.

Endeavour Silver Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

In the last twelve months, the biggest single sale by an insider was when the CEO & Director, Bradford Cooke, sold CA$71k worth of shares at a price of CA$3.55 per share. So we know that an insider sold shares at around the present share price of CA$2.97. While insider selling is a negative, to us, it is more negative if the shares are sold at a lower price. Given that the sale took place at around current prices, it makes us a little cautious but is hardly a major concern. The only individual insider seller over the last year was Bradford Cooke.

Bradford Cooke sold a total of 40000 shares over the year at an average price of US$3.50. You can see the insider transactions (by individuals) over the last year depicted in the chart below. I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders.
