From the Xbox One X to bundles, here's how to find the best Xbox deal on Black Friday

How to get a good deal on a new Xbox on Black Friday

This year, Black Friday falls on 24 November. For Xbox fans, it's the chance to bag a bargain.

Last year, plenty of retailers made big discounts on gaming items, including Tesco, John Lewis, Amazon, Very, Game and Argos.

From where to buy the latest console to what games to look out for in bundles, here is everything you need to know ahead of the sales weekend.

Which Xbox do you want?

The current generation Xbox is the Xbox One. By the time Black Friday rolls around, there will be two variants: the Xbox One S, and the Xbox One X. Yes, they sound similar - it's a confusing naming scheme.

You might also see a Project Scorpio edition around; this is just a cosmetically different Xbox One X and is identical internally.

The Xbox One S is the budget option. It's the cheaper of the two and is basically the same as the original Xbox One, except with some slight improvements and changes, mostly to size. It's already been released and is what the average gamer will probably want.

The Xbox One X is the high-end version: capable of 4K gameplay and enhanced with certain games, it's ideal for anyone with a 4K T.. You can check out our full guide to the Xbox One X here, which has everything that you need to know about the console.

Your best best for Black Friday is to look out for deals on the Xbox One S. That's the one that's most likely to receive Black Friday deals; the One X won't be released until early November and is unlikely to be discounted so soon after it's debut.

Where can I buy an Xbox One X?

The Xbox One X is available to pre-order from TescoGAME and Argos for £449.99. Plus you can buy it with Forza 7, an optional extra controller and/or 12 Months Xbox Live Gold from at Very.

Where can I get a good deal on an Xbox bundle?

We recommend buying a bundle, which usually include a console, recent releases and Xbox exclusive games.

Games to look out for in these bundles include:

  • Destiny 2 (released in September)

  • FIFA 18 (released in September)

  • Assassin's Creed Origins (released 27 October)

  • Super Mario Odyssey (released 27 October)

  • Call of Duty: WW2 (released 3 November)

  • Star Wars Battlefront 2 (released 17 November)

Where can I buy an Xbox One S Assassin's Creed Origins bundle?

A bundle including the Xbox One S and the new Assassin's Creed Origins is available to pre-order already, giving you an idea of what to expect.

There are two versions of the bundle: one including the cheaper 500GB model, and one with the 1TB model.

Both include the Xbox One S, Assassin's Creed Origins, a wireless controller, a one month Xbox Games Pass subscription (a Netflix-like service for Xbox One games) and a 14-day Xbox Live Gold trial. The 1TB bundle also comes with a copy of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.

The bundle costs £229 for the 500GB model and £299 for the 1TB model. It's currently only up for pre-order on the official Microsoft store, with other retailers presumably coming soon.

Other bundles on the market includes the Xbox One S 500GB Assassin's Creed Origins Bundle (£229.99, Smyths Toys) and the Xbox One S 1TB Assassins Creed Origins & Rainbow Six Seige Bundle (£299.99, Smyths Toys). Plus, you can buy the game on its own for £59.99 at GAME.,

Be in the know

In order to bag the best deals, follow the Facebook and Twitter pages of GAME, Amazon, Tesco, and John Lewis - plus retailers like Argos, Very and Currys - for real-time updates on all of their offers. It's also worth signing up for their regular emails. Amazon recommends getting its Prime service, to get exclusive early access to certain deals.

If you prefer to do your shopping in person, make sure to note down your local stores’ opening hours so you can be ahead of the crowds.

If you're planning to buy online, remember that many of the deals will probably go live at midnight on Black Friday so it could be a late night. In fact some retailers have offered deals well in advance of Black Friday in the past, so keep your eyes peeled early.
