    Dividend stock #2: Sun Life
Sun Life (TSX:SLF)(NYSE:SLF) is another Dividend Aristocrat operating in an industry where I wouldn’t bet on demand slowing anytime soon.
The $35 billion company is a global insurance leader in addition to providing its customers with a range of wealth management services.
As of writing, Sun Life’s annual dividend of $2.76 per share is good enough for a yield above 4.5%. There aren’t many other Canadian Dividend Aristocrats that can match that yield.
While it may not be the most exciting company to own, it sure is a dependable one. And with a dividend yield like that, this is a can’t-miss company for passive-income investors.

Interest rates going up and…insurance companies going down?

What’s the deal here? Almost none of the worlds big insurance companies (Allianz in Germany, Axa in France, our here) have creeped up much beyond their pre 07-08 crisis price.

Their underperformance over the years owes much to the depressed rates since the crisis, and again a drop in rates during Covid.

Now that rates are on the rise—from zero—, you’d think the tailwinds would be blowing hard in the insurance sector, but they don’t seem to be blowing as hard as in the oil & gas sector, which was a no brainer buy in March/April 2020.

Same deal here with insurance companies on the eve of big rate climbs? Or is inflation a much more complicated phenomenon than price increases at the grocery store?

    I’m still buying, but cautiously.

This company is the best run insurance company in Canada. They are fiscally smart too. Ex-dividend date coming up. Good time to get in before the divvy hunters coming looking for treats.

What is up with this company?
Even after good earnings and a dividend increase, it still takes a dive.

I bought this at 35 with a target of 42. I'm thinking of selling and taking a nice gain, but fundamentals still look very strong. I'm going to go with a price target of 50 and hold for awhile but put a trailing stop on it in case I'm wrong. The dividend, of course, is nice too. Thoughts?

I’ve been in this stock for awhile now and have been watching it go down day by day. But from what I’ve seen, the financials look good and therefore I’m holding on. Their annual report is coming out in early August and I just have a feeling there will be some upward movement at that point. I’ve held On this long, I might as well stay the course and see what happens. But it’s a good company and I think the price will go up
