A group representing major U.S. airlines forecast record summer travel with carriers expected to transport 271 million passengers, up 6.3% from last year. Airlines for America said Tuesday that U.S. carriers plan to fly more than 26,000 daily flights this summer, up nearly 1,400 over 2023, or 5.6%, when they carried 255 million passengers. The summer travel season forecast is for June 1 to Aug. 31.
If you took an American Airlines flight in the 1960s, you’d be wined and dined from the Coach-class “Royal Coachman” menu. Your meal began with the beef consommé and proceeded to sautéed breast of chicken in wine. Care for a fruit tartlet for dessert?
The U.S. Transportation Department Office of Inspector General (DOT OIG) will audit the Federal Aviation Administration's oversight of United Airlines maintenance practices, the agency watchdog said on Thursday. "We will evaluate FAA’s actions to address maintenance non-compliances and violations at the air carrier," the DOT OIG said on its website. Over the past five years, the inspector general has issued several audit reports and recommendations on FAA’s oversight of maintenance at Allegiant Air, Southwest Airlines, and American Airlines and is currently reviewing SkyWest Airlines.
