A scheme for entrepreneurs founded by Prince Andrew has taken down the logos of its corporate sponsors from its website, as firms and charities distance themselves from the British royal over a sex scandal. Andrew, Queen Elizabeth's second son, denies an allegation that he had sex with a 17-year-old girl procured for him by his friend Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in a U.S. prison in August while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The scandal has escalated since Andrew's rambling denials and explanations in a disastrous TV interview aired on Saturday left many viewers incredulous, and his apparent lack of compassion for Epstein's victims drew widespread condemnation.
The Bank of England warned on Tuesday it will crack down on insurers that are overly optimistic about how much capital they need to cover growing risks from the United States and elsewhere. Gareth Truran, acting director for insurance supervision at the Bank's Prudential Regulation Authority, said the risk of reserving "deficiencies" was increasing in a sector that may be "optimistic" about its outlook. "For Lloyd's managing agents, we will continue to work closely with Lloyd's, taking into account in particular the work of Lloyd's Performance Management Directorate in approving and monitoring syndicate business plans," Truran said.
Insurance broker Aon plans to move its parent company's jurisdiction of incorporation to Ireland from Britain due to Brexit, it said in a statement on Tuesday. New York-listed Aon will keep its operational headquarters in London and the switch of jurisdiction will not affect its business operations, reporting requirements or listings, it added. "Remaining within the European Union single market will help the firm maintain a stable corporate structure and capital flexibility," the firm said.
