Italy is talking to China's Dongfeng Motor and others as part of efforts to attract another major automaker to the country in addition to Stellantis, Industry Minister Adolfo Urso said on Wednesday. "There are talks with several automakers, not only Asian ones", Urso said, confirming Dongfeng was among them. Dongfeng's Europe chief Qian Xie on Tuesday told reporters the group was considering building a plant in Italy, with a annual capacity of more than 100,000 vehicles.
Russian company Automotive Technologies on Wednesday said it had started assembling Citroen C5 Aircross models in batches at a plant south of Moscow formerly owned by Stellantis, with the cars set to be sold in dealerships from May. Reuters exclusively reported in February, citing customs data and two people familiar with the matter, that Automotive Technologies had imported at least 42 car kits from China for assembling Citroen models at the plant. Manufactured in China, the kits were produced by China's Dongfeng Motor Group, the data showed.
China's Dongfeng Motor Group and Stellantis said on Thursday the automakers will expand their vehicle and component export business through an asset sale to capture the burgeoning China auto market better. Under the asset transfer deal, state-owned Dongfeng will buy land use-rights and buildings in Wuhan and Xiangyang from Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën Automobile (DPCA), its joint venture with Stellantis, for 1.71 billion yuan ($233.69 million).
