Mathews joined Pilgrim America as a portfolio manager in June 1995. Previously, between 1987 and 1995, he worked at Van Kampen Merritt Investment Advisory Corporation as a vice president and portfolio manager. Prior to that, he spent two years as a vice president at Southmark Corporation, where he traded money-market and short-term corporate securities and reviewed long-term, high-yield credits.
