Japanese oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan agreed with trading house Mitsubishi Corp and Swiss firm Proman to study a fuel ammonia production project in the U.S., the three companies said on Tuesday. Japan considers ammonia as a key component in its transition to a net-zero economy, and is pursuing this strategy to facilitate the decarbonisation of diverse industries, including power generation and chemicals. The project in Lake Charles, Louisiana, which is under the front-end engineering design (FEED) stage, aims to produce about 1.2 million metric tons of low-carbon ammonia per year by 2030 fiscal year through March 2031, using technology from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in collaboration with Kansai Electric Power, they said in a statement.
TOKYO (Reuters) -Toyota and oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan announced a tie up on Thursday to develop and mass produce all-solid-state batteries, in another example of new partnerships being forged amid the disruptive shift to electric vehicles. The companies aim to commercialise next-generation batteries in 2027-28, followed by full-scale mass production. Toyota has said it planned to introduce the batteries, which would drastically improve the driving range of EVs, as part of a strategic pivot to EVs announced in June.
Japanese oil refiner Idemitsu Kosan Co has restarted the 190,000-bpd crude distillation unit (CDU) at its Chiba refinery, near Tokyo on June 26 after scheduled maintenance, a company spokesperson said on Monday. The Keihin refinery of Toa Oil, an Idemitsu unit, restarted on June 4 after finishing its maintenance, including the 70,000 bpd sole CDU, the Idemitsu spokesperson said.
