I mean Boeing has stated that they will have a fix for the issue in about 10 days.. The Black Box which was very compromised is only now being explored. Which means Boeing has also reviewed the Aireon Data as part of the fault process. Getting the affected planes modified and return to air is worth Billions of dollars to Boeing. Aireon is quickly becoming a National Asset.

Rust, Oneweb very different. Different market, consumer, technology, spectrum, frequency, etc. There are number of others in the Oneweb space including Elon Musk. This may take some of Iridiums market but not the lion's share. It may also add some business to Iridium as some of these other constellations could partner with Iridium. Really, Oneweb is not the concern for the future stock price of Iridium. The real question, can they grow sales to meet higher market valuations/expectations? We will see if they can do this while the others are still planning their constellations. You have been in this stock for some time. I believe that you have more time to make a decision at a modest risk/good upside.
Pros: Wow, amazing story line. The hurdles they jumped to get to this point are truly amazing. In 2010 they put their trust in Elon Musk and the French Government, and it worked!!! Kudos to the management team, engineers and finance guys. A great update and powerful constellation to generate revenue for the next 10 years and beyond.
Cons: Chips sets, dev tools and modems not ready. To get the truly revolutionary products to the market, they will need time to finalize hardware, create development tools, work with partners and get government certifications.
My read from the stock perspective. The company will grow fast but not for some time. Given the state of the Certus development tools and modems, substantial growth will not come until the back half of 2020. Existing IoT is experiencing high growth rate but they are low ARPU. Seems like stock will be range bound for the next 1.5-2 years. Then increase in value as growth accelerates. I was hoping management was sandbagging their current projects. Given status of modems, I think their projects look more realistic.
Look for more positive Press Releases regarding integration of Aireon into ATM systems.. Like the recent announcement by Adacel regarding completion of integration by Adacel of Aireon which is a very important checkbox for FAA as their systems handle all the Oceanic regions for the FAA.

Iridium Satellite, LLC, Tempe, Arizona, was awarded a non-competitive firm fixed price contract modification on April 22, 2019, HC104714C4000, for the extension of services on the current Airtime contract. The face value of this action is $8,327,000.00 funded by fiscal 2019 defense working capital funds. The total cumulative face value of the contract is $452,327,000.00. The original solicitation was issued on the basis of other than full and open competition pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), only one responsible source and no other type of supplies or services would satisfy agency requirements. Performance will be at the contractor’s facility. The period of performance for the option period is April 22, 2019, through May 21, 2019. The Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, is the contracting activity (HC104714C4000, P00009).
With the roll-out of Iridium Certus in full flow and the safety of mariners at sea remaining a top priority, Iridium is closing in on the final piece of the maritime puzzle with their quest for GMDSS certification and hardware. The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) was established more than 20 years ago to help ensure safety for those at sea by regulating onboard radio communications equipment, both satellite and terrestrial, to send and receive distress and safety information.
In May 2018, the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) recognised that the Iridium network met all the criteria the IMO needed to provide mobile satellite services for GMDSS. Then in April 2019, Iridium announced the signing of a Public Services Agreement (PSA) with the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) which details the conditions for IMSO to act as regulator and maintain oversight of Iridium GMDSS services.
The satellite communications network provider is now seeking to end the decades-long satellite industry monopoly in which only one company, Inmarsat was authorized to provide satellite GMDSS, which consequently limited coverage reach, capability and choice for captains and crew at sea. With Iridium, mariners will for the first time in history have a choice in GMDSS equipment and a service provider which has the ability to cover 100 percent of the world’s oceans, helping protect mariners no matter where they sail.
Since receiving IMO recognition and the PSA, Iridium continues to work closely with GMDSS regulators and potential users of the service and anticipates a service launch date in January 2020.
Essentially, GMDSS includes three key maritime safety services. The first one is distress alerting, and that’s what most ships have right now. If you find yourself in distress, you go to your GMDSS terminal and just hold the red button down for three seconds and it will send a small, but effective piece of information to a Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) so people know who you are, where you are, and that you’re in distress. With this information they can then help you.
The second component is distress voice, which is also activated by a red button that you hold down and then it immediately fires off a distress-level call to one of the RCCs that are located around the world. With the current product in market, this happens through a separate terminal. Not many vessels have the additional terminal, and therefore don’t use distress voice. This is because these terminals use older technology, they have been superseded – and they’re not cheap! So currently few vessels have access to distress voice, which is something we look to change by making it a more cost-effective option.
The third service is what they call Maritime Safety Information, or MSI. MSI is basically the information that is automatically received by the GMDSS terminal. There are a couple of different “flavors” of information and they are: nav messages (or navigational warnings), met messages (meteorological or weather warnings), and safety-related messages (messages about safety incidents or general safety). The other term that’s associated with MSI is “Enhanced Group Call” or EGC – that is a generic name for an MSI service. When we launch, this part of GMDSS services called Iridium SafetyCastSM.
Value Added Manufacturer (VAM) Lars-Thrane has developed a new terminal [LT-3100S] for Iridium GMDSS that will integrate all three services into one, small, saucy-looking terminal.
Specifically (h) and (i)
(h) Within 1 year of the date of this order, the Director of OSTP shall coordinate the development of a national plan, which shall be informed by existing initiatives, for the R&D and pilot testing of additional, robust, and secure PNT services that are not dependent on global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). The plan shall also include approaches to integrate and use multiple PNT services to enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure. Once the plan is published, the Director of OSTP shall coordinate updates to the plan every 4 years, or as appropriate.
(i) Within 180 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Commerce shall make available a GNSS-independent source of Coordinated Universal Time, to support the needs of critical infrastructure owners and operators, for the public and private sectors to access.

Looks like someone wants to get the results out early.
Saw a document on the nitrd.gov/ website
The Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Program is the Nation’s primary source of federally funded work on advanced information technologies (IT) in computing, networking, and software.
The document says...
"• New DoD contract with Iridium to begin October 2019
• Continue fixed cost/unlimited use for low bitrate data
• New metered cost for higher data rates, starting at 352 kbps"
So, as previously corrected, the new DoD budget begins on Oct. 1 which would coincide with the statement on this article. Given the run rate on the current extensions to the current contract. It would bring them to about 108MM annually by October.
What is this going to be? Something big or just notification that they constellation is complete.
