How PayPal capitalizes on value-added services: Analyst

PayPal (PYPL) reported its first quarter earnings, raising its profit guidance for 2024. In the report, the company cites strong consumer demand. This is backed by a survey from LendingTree which states that 29% of Americans plan on using buy now, pay later loans.  Wedbush Securities Equity Research Analyst Moshe Katri joins Market Domination to discuss PayPal's performance and break down how the company is utilizing value-added services for success. Katri gets to the core of value-added services: "If you're a merchant, we're talking about a bunch of different applications that are needed for your daily operations. Anywhere from inventory management, receivables, rewards, apparel processing or payroll and obviously capital. These are all things that you need to operate your business and if you're able to use, for example, PayPal as a one-stop shop for that, you should be able to kind of unbundle that business, which is value-added services from the payments piece. Alternative credit cards? 'Buy now, pay later' loans on the rise

PayPal (PYPL) has adjusted its full year profit forecast, increasing estimates due to robust consumer demand. A survey from LendingTree showed almost 30% of Americans are considering a Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) loan this month. The survey also showed that 47% of BNPL users have been late on a payment. LendingTree Chief Credit Analyst Matt Schulz joins Wealth! to give insight into PayPal's BNPL loans and how it impacts consumers. In response to the percentage of people who are late on payments, Schultz states: "It just goes to show that even though these loans can be really useful and can be a great financial tool when you use them wisely, there really is a lot of risk. We have seen really high numbers consistently over the years in terms of the percentage of users who have paid late and unfortunately with the cost of things these days, I don't think those numbers are going to come down anytime terribly soon."
