Bed Bath & Beyond reaffirms ongoing search for new CEO

Yahoo Finance's Brian Sozzi discusses reports that Sue Gove will remain the interim CEO of Bed Bath & Beyond as the struggling retailer seaches for a new top executive.

Video transcript

BRIAN SOZZI: Bed, Bath & Beyond has been on the hunt for a new CEO since June, with Sue Gove taking up the helm as interim CEO. And according to reports, Gove will likely remain in this position for at least a year. Now, Bed, Bath & Beyond did get back to me on this morning. They usually never get back to me, but here, they did. And they didn't exactly shoot down this report, saying that Gove will be in this position for a year. They said the search for a CEO is ongoing.

Just the fact that Gove is likely to be in this position for about a year underscores just how much chaos is inside of Bed, Bath & Beyond. There is no way they're going to attract anyone of top talent from outside this organization to come in here and potentially watch or drive a potential bankruptcy situation. Nobody wants that on their resume. Nobody. So Gove, I wish her luck. I wish you well.

JULIE HYMAN: I'm sorry. This is what we were missing over the past couple of days, the Sozz getting fired up--

BRIAN SOZZI: Yeah, it's frustrating.

JULIE HYMAN: --over some company.

BRAD SMITH: I mean, you really got to talk about-- you get into the conversation of who has already cemented their career, perhaps, is just like, yeah, I'll come out of retirement. I'm just looking for a project to do.

BRIAN SOZZI: Yeah, no, it's like-- it would be like Tom Brady going to join the Jets right now. Why do you even want to be involved with that fire-- that disaster story? It's ridiculous.

JULIE HYMAN: Because you might be--

JULIE HYMAN: --able to rescue it.

BRIAN SOZZI: No, it's not a rescue. Bed, Bath, come on. It's going be right there with Sears.
